A USA Fencing membership is mandatory for all fencers regardless of recreational or competitive fencer status. This is required of all fencers for insurance purposes. If you are a recreational fencer not competing you will need to get an Access Membership. Competitive fencers need to get a Competitive Membership. The Competitive Membership is necessary for participation in regional and national events. Memberships need to be purchased through USA Fencing at www.usafencing.org
Dragon Heart Membership:
Membership is required to become a member of our club. It helps us keep minor costs and repairs at the Academy to keep the facility operational. Our members also enjoy perks such as Saturday Open Fencing, discounts on our workshops and seminars and club events. Membership dues are due at the time of registration, are non-refundable and renewed on an annual basis as long as the fencer is a part of our club. There are discounts for household memberships (2 or more siblings).
Training Uniform & Spirit Wear:
As in any other team or organization, wearing the club emblem on your uniform is mandatory. Same applies for our distinctive spirit wear for competitions and events. Academy colors are red, white, and black. The Academy logo may NOT be reproduced on outside bought merchandise. Inside the club, and for all classes we will use black shorts or leggings along with the Academy red t-shirt with our logo. While you are getting set-up for classes, please wear any red t-shirt you have. Please see the maestros for gear and spirit wear purchases.
Participation in Competitions:
Competitions are voluntary and encouraged for a full fencing experience. You can start with the small at-home events and grow into local, regional and national circuit. All competitions outside the Academy have associated costs for coaching fees. All competitions out of Houston, have associated costs for travel expenses and coaching fees. Travel expenses are calculated by adding lodging, meals, transportation, and incidentals for our coaches and then equally divided among the number of participating families and must be paid before competition day. For competitions involving traveling, you must arrive to the destination on the night before the event that you are participating in. Please bring your spirit wear and always observe a respectful behavior when representing the Academy. Pictures at the podium must be in long pants, closed toed shoes and the Academy jacket. White uniform is also valid. Thank you.
